PARENTING

Being a parent is the most important job of all, although no qualification is required.  When we truly invest in our children and want to be the best parent we can be, it can be exhausting, frustrating and sometimes even heartbreaking.  However, if we want our children to grow into respectful, respectable, independent, hard-working, self-confident, likeable adults who contribute effectively to society, it is essential that as parents, we establish firm yet fair and reasonable boundaries balanced with unconditional visible love.  This is not always easy to achieve and there is always room for improvement in parenting but if done right (mostly), being a parent is the most rewarding and emotionally fulfilling job in the world.  There is no such thing as the perfect child or the perfect parent, but “Anything in life worth having comes from patience and hard work” (Greg Behrendt).

Purpose:

Kerry is licensed to deliver the 1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching, and Engaging Adolescents Parenting Programs.

The 1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching Program aims to help parents and carers manage difficult child behaviour with a focus on strategies and techniques that promote positive behaviour; encouragement in developing the child's ability to manage their emotional reactions; and relationship-building.  The program is designed for parents of children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old.

Engaging Adolescents is a parenting program for parents of adolescents (ages 12 to 18).  This program aims to teach parents the valuable skills required to live harmoniously with their teenagers.  Parents learn some easy-to-use strategies for managing the challenging behaviour and conflict that often go hand-in-hand with raising adolescents. The program teaches parents how to effectively navigate some of the difficult conversations they need to have with their teenagers in an effort to improve their behaviour and reduce parent-adolescent conflict.

1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching, and Engaging Adolescents are parenting programs developed by Australian Psychologist, trained teacher, and founder of Parentshop, Michael Hawton.
